Winter – cold, grey, gloomy, and isolating…it is how I imagine describing incarceration! This past winter was particularly icy and along with a torn ligament really hampered our ‘adventurous spirits’. But now, the last of the ice has melted, the days are getting longer and we can finally go outside. It is now time to prepare for Spring and get outdoors!!! Spring must haves for us are not very glamorous…rather uber-practical.
5 Must Haves for Spring
Bug Spray and Repellent.
We hear repeatedly that there are two seasons, Winter and road repair. I would expand and say there are still two seasons, Winter and mosquitoes season (plus road repair). Honestly the snow and ice just melted off the front lawn and there is already mosquitoes out, crazy.
Unfortunately my kids take after me and get big button marks when bit. Bug spray is a must. Candles and a fan a great accessory. And at the end of the day a little ‘after-bite’ to soothe the itch.
With the outdoors comes sunscreen. Last year I probably spent more than a day researching different sun screens to protect my family. It was the first time I found sunscreen sticks for the face and we apply it like war paint. The kids like the opaque white version the best. I personally will take clear for myself. After the face there is the waterproof cream and a standard all purpose spray.
Rain Gear – Rubber Boots and Rain Coat
Hold the umbrella. Personally I don’t see the advantage of trying to hold an umbrella over my head and carry ten bags of groceries or the little hands of two children. I opt for the right weather clothes….but to be completely honest it is only a recent thing with me, generally I just got wet. Lately the cold sets in quicker so rain gear is a staple.
Pedicure – yeah!
The clunky boots are stored away for the Winter…but the poor toes will need a little face lift before they can face the light of Spring. I always go with a pretty funky colour and usually with some cute name. A colour like “New Orleans” (link here ) definitely gets me ready for Spring!
A Nice Pair of Slip on Sandals
Now that the feet are prettified…it is time to highlight with some sandals. This isn’t a splurge it is a necessity. Take it from me a good sturdy sensible pair of sandals for all of the running around. The year I did simple flip-flops caused so much arch pain. The sandals can be pretty but they have to be supportive.
Please share with me what you need to get Spring started…and I am always open to nail polish suggestions!
